Friends are Friends Forever…

1

Blinn is beyond ecstatic right now because her dear friend Maddy is staying with us for a few days because her mom just gave birth to a little girl this morning! (We don’t have details yet.) Blinn and Maddy are just a few months apart and love to play together. Friends are fun! (KEEP ME IN YOUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS- 2 ALMOST-TWO YEARS OLDS ARE RUNNING THE SHOW AROUND HERE!) :)

I found this fun site (it’s in Chinese I think) where you can upload your pictures to make them look old. Here’s Blinn and I via 1942. :)

Wakey Wakey

3

I love these pictures because, for me, they’ve captured that moment each day when we go into Blinn’s (blacked-out) bedroom to get her up from her afternoon nap. And I know it won’t last much longer because her lengthening legs are getting pretty close to scaling the side of that crib. One of these mornings we’re going to wake up to a little booger standing right beside our bed, which will probably startle us half to death and be the cutest and most terrifying moment of the year. So cheers to naps and modern white Ikea contraptions that act as cages but aren’t really cages and to adorable little people who haven’t yet figured out how to escape.

Downtown Lemont

1

Most days Blinn and I take a walk and we love to walk through our neighborhood in downtown Lemont, where our friends work at the salon and the flower shop, and stop by the girls’ boutique, the antique store and the thrift store. And if we’re lucky, a stop at our favorite ice cream shop! We love living where we can just walk to see friends. I don’t know if I ever want to live somewhere where you have to drive everywhere! How depressing! Here’s a picture from one of our walks around our wonderful neighborhood. You can see more from our walk in our June 2008 set at our Flickr account.

Church Sign 1, originally uploaded by theconnours.

There’s this church not far from where we live that has the funniest church signs. Sometimes church signs are just cheesy and weirdly spiritual, but this church’s sign is just always vague and random. Which means we’ll go out of our way running errands to see what it says each week, despite the fact that gas is $4.26 a gallon. I’ll try to post them whenever I can.

Prayer

0

Hi everyone- Just wanted to let you know to pray for the Burgbacher family  and for Jenni, Janell and I as we take off on the road early Friday morning.

This past Tuesday afternoon, Tania Burgbacher was killed in a car accident near their home in Charleston, SC. Tania is the mom of one of my closest friends from college, Lindy. I also lived with them for 4 months while going to school in SC in 2002. Tania was such a fun, lively, and godly woman. A loving wife, mom and grandma to her family, and the best southern cook (sweet tea brewed every morning!). I still laugh whenever I remember all of the times (multiple times this would happen) I would come back to the house in the middle of the day after classes were out, and she would be in her own world doing something in the kitchen, and would let out an ear-piercing scream when I’d walk in the kitchen, because she didn’t hear me come in and I startled her! She was extremely involved in their church and has been a huge influence to tons of people. The news has been devastating to everyone- friends, family and the church that Larry and Tania have pastored in Summerville, SC for over 20 years. Everything seems very surreal at the moment. Please pray for Larry, Chad, Jason and Lindy and family especially, and also for the three of us as we make the 14 hour-one way- trip there and back this weekend. The church is taking donations to a ministry in Nepal that was close to Tania’s heart, in lieu of flowers, etc. If you would like to donate, you can find more information at www.faithishere.org

For the record…

This is a fun little list of what Blinn’s doing/saying these last few months. I had originally posted it on my myspace, but thought I would post it here too!

  • Blinn loves to smell candles and flowers. Whenever she sees a candle, she has to pick it up and bury her nose in it and go “mmmm.. nummy…” Currently, she loves to climb up on top of the toilet and reach the candle that’s by the sink. It’s her favorite smelly candle. She also loves to smell at the candles in Viviana’s flower shop.
  • Blinn is getting really good at talking on the phone. She’ll actually talk and interact with whoever is on the other end for a good 3-4 minutes. And when she’s talking I can tell she’s really listening to what they’re saying and then she’ll tell them what we’ve been doing “Park” “Car” “Daddy” “Walk”. Maybe when she starts talking in full sentences, I’ll make answering the phone one of her chores and then I’ll never have to answer the phone again!! :) jk.
  • Right now, Blinn has to have two “biblees” (blankets) with her to go “na-night” and her “lala” (gloworm doll) and her “bear” (teddy bear) and her “pafu” (pacifier). If one of these is missing, she will let you know. ***update**** She now also has two babies and a Fraggle Rock that also have to be included. It’s getting crowded in there. Also her pottery barn blanket is specifically the one that she has to have now. I’m going to have to order another one for backup I think.
  • It takes Blinn a while to wake up in the morning and it’s best to just leave her alone until she lets you know that she’s ready to get up by yelling something. (this is about 20-30 after you first hear her waking up). If you get her out of her crib or interact with her while she’s still in the process of waking up, she could very possibly be cranky for quite a while. I have a sneaky suspicion that this behavior could last a very very long time. ;)
  • Some of Blinn’s nicknames include: Blinn, Abilene, Boo, Boo-Bear, Boo-Boo, Abo, Busy Bee, Blinndalyn, Blinn-Blinn, and Abilene Olive when we’re really serious.
  • Right now Blinn has taken to saying “Mama!” and “Daddy!” in a very loud, commanding tone for fun
  • As soon as we get up in the morning Blinn is asking, “coat? bubye? car? walk??” She is VERY social and loves to be around lots of people. (We’re not sure exactly where she got that from. :) )
  • She talks a ton. Her doctor couldn’t believe how much she was saying at her checkup a few weeks ago. She knows most any animal you show her (and the corresponding noise it makes), she sings “The Rainbow Song” which goes “red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, rainbow colors!” and the chorus of Jesus Love Me. And tonight when we were at the ice cream shop with Jenni, Jenni asked her if she liked her raspberry sorbet and Blinn replied “I like it” which I think qualifies as her first sentence! (She’ll also say “I see you”, but I think she’s learned that from us)
  • She loves her Jesus books (little kid Bibles) that we read before bedtime. She calls him “Jejush” and also calls anyone robed “Jejush”. This includes saint statues in the yards around Lemont, star wars figurines and the Statue of Liberty.
  • Whatever you say to her or ask her, she’ll repeat back the last word you said as a question. IE: Did you have fun? “Fun?” Do you want to go for a walk? “walk?” Do you want to eat? “Eat” Did you see the fish? “Fish?”
  • She loves to get onto the stage at church and sing in the microphone.
  • She loves the Hillsong kids “Superstrong God” DVD. “Rainbow” is her favorite and she has almost all of the motions down.
  • When we read a book and we’re done with it (or she decides that she’s done with it) she says “Amen” because she has Amen and The End confused. :)
  • She is terrified of people in Shrek costumes. (but who isn’t??)Shrek
  • When Blinn wakes up in the morning or after her nap, she has to gather as many or all of her blankies and stuffed animals/babies and take them with her. (This can be up to 7 different items that she’s trying to pick up at once.)
  • She tries to sneak her pacifier when we’re not looking. (see post from last week)
  • She hates sirens.
  • She loves the train and if she hears it coming she’s going “See? See? See?” to make sure that you’re going to drop whatever you’re doing to pick her up to look out the window before the train is gone. (We live 100ft from the train track- so this happens about every 15 minutes). I have to confess that there have been a few times that I’ve attempted to talk over or distract her from the train if I can tell that it’s coming!!

Well, that’s all for now. I’ll post more as I think of them. This is mainly just a record for us, but we hope that you enjoy them too!

Things I Find

findings, originally uploaded by theconnours.

One of my favorite things is when I find toys that Blinn’s “placed” around the apartment, like this apple I found in the windowsill when she was napping. I love trying to figure out what was going through her head and why that certain thing had to be placed there. It’s a fun game.

Also- this is a great time to mention again how much we love wooden toys. They’re so much cuter laying around the house!!

One of the funniest quirks about Blinn is that she can be on the ground throwing a tantrum because we’re leaving the park, but if you tell her to say goodbye to everything she calms down immediately. “Bye slide. Bye swing. Bye horsey.”

The Shoplifter

2

A few weeks ago, we were at Macy’s. I thought I would be a good husband and take the kid for a stroll while Sam shopped around. I took Blinn through the shoe aisles, because she (like her mom) love shoes.

Several minutes later, we finally left the store and started a fast pace through the mall. Half way to the other end, I glanced down and there sitting on Blinn’s lap was a glittering gold shoe from Macy’s.

I took this quick shot on my phone before mall security caught up with us.

The Art of Shoplifting

She looks guilty, doesn’t she?

(Sam thinks that she has good taste at least.)
